I originally started working with Kevin in a "gym" setting in 2012 doing a lot of supported walking exercises. Gains were small and slow, but as can be expected for such a severe case.
I made the connection about a year ago that Cerebral Palsy is different from most cases of people trying re-learning motor skills or gait after injury or dysfunction.... Kevin never did these movements before as a baby, EVER. Cerebral Palsy interrupts the natural patterning of motor development and so without very rigorous therapies, the body will not experience it. Because of this Kevin is not able to "recall" these skills when "re-learning" to move or walk after injury. He's learning them all for the first time, at age 16.
Through PrimalMovement WORKS! System since summer 2016: We've seen progress in his ability to better coordinate limbs; his chiropractor said, "keep doing whatever that is!" because he felt so much relief in his spine; exploration, play, and self expression through movement that is so dampened in a wheelchair and with speech challenges... we have started to tackle hand coordination with little games of collecting metal peices sprinkled on he table with a magnet strapped to his hand, or coloring in large circles drawn on butcher paper...
Enjoy, be inspired that PMW is an amazing system that can truely be applied to ANYONE!
